Donegall Pass Women’s Group

Working with local women to explore, celebrate and share the stories, traditions and experiences that have shaped life in Donegall Pass across generations.

We have been working with Donegall Pass Women’s Group on the development of their culture & heritage project.

The purpose of this project is to research and celebrate an aspect of the area that the women’s group are interested in. The women were interested in; community notice boards, storytelling and community street celebrations.

At the onset of the project the group were interested in creating a bench that was designed with community stories, so people could either sit together and share a story or sit alone and read one. As the project developed, time limits meant the group had to rethink the project and what could be achieved in the time frame. The group focused on creating artwork from archive images of street celebrations. These artworks have been made through the mediums of drawing and print making. This project has allowed the women to try out lino printing and mono printing. These print designs will be used as the design on the bench they create in the future.
